Spider-80Hi High Channel Count Dynamic Measurement System
Product Overview
The Spider-80Hi from Crystal Instruments is the front-end module for the Spider-80Xi modular, scalable system, built for high channel count dynamic signal analysis, vibration control and machine monitoring. Each module provides 8 input channels and 2 channels that can be set in software as analogue outputs or tachometer inputs, so a single front-end is a complete two-output vibration controller.
Using patented dual 24-bit sigma-delta ADC technology, the Spider-80Hi achieves more than 175 dBFS dynamic range, with sampling up to 512 kHz and THD of -105 dB at 1 kHz. Modules install in 4-slot (DC powered, field portable) or 8-slot (AC powered, up to 64 channels) Spider-80Xi chassis, and systems scale from 16 up to 1,024 channels, all sampled simultaneously and phase matched via IEEE 1588v2. Black Box mode lets tests run without a PC, on a schedule or triggered by external events. It is supported by Crystal Instruments’ EDM software for dynamic signal analysis, vibration control and modal testing.

EDM software is a complete VCS (Vibration Control System). Crystal Instruments has recently released the new EDM 9.0 release, the most powerful and feature rich version of EDM software. EDM 9.0 release supports the newly introduced hardware units (Spider-80Hi, Spider-80Ci, Spider-20i, Spider-20H, Spider-20HE) that support data acquisition and recording for up to 256 kHz. In addition, the proprietary Multi-Resolution technology has been extended to benefit frequently used Vibration Control tests for Single-axis and MIMO tests. EDM has the following suite of software modules:
Software Features
- Random Vibration Control
- Sine-On-Random (SoR)
- Random-On-Random (RoR)
- Swept Sine Vibration Control
- Resonance Search Track & Dwell (RSTD)
- Multi-Sine
- Sine Oscillator
